DESTIG "Best Artist Of 2020"

Tom Ashbourne

Sculpture, unlike other art forms, has multiple sides, angles, views, and needs to work with light in many different ways. It’s a very sophisticated art form and artistic expression. I’ve been collecting and appreciating art for most of my life and these are some of the reasons why sculpture has become my favourite.

I naturally think in 3D, a gift that few people share. I can see things in the raw stone, and find the best way to bring them to life. I continually assess the sculpture as it evolves, working on each side with equal intensity. I want each side of the sculpture to draw people’s interest, over and over.

My sculptures are an expression of my life and artistic experiences, and are an extension of my knowledge about what transforms a sculpture into a successful artistic statement.
